The death rates in the homeopathic hospitals from cholera, scarlet fever, typhoid, yellow fever, pneumonia, and others was typically one-half to even one-eighth of conventional medical hospitals (Bradford, 1900; Coulter, 1973 ). Similar good results were also observed in mental institutions and prisons under the care of homeopathic physicians compared to those under the care of conventional doctors.

The study authors – based at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center , where Dossett was a research fellow at the time of the survey – divided respondents into four groups: those who used homeopathic products during the preceding 12 months, those who used supplements but did not use homeopathy, those who used other forms of CIM but not homeopathy or supplements, and those who did not use CIM.
Medicines that are manufactured only from those substances or sources referenced as monographs in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS), the Homöopathisches ArzneiBuch (HAB), the Pharmacopée française (PhF), the European Pharmacopoeia (.) or the Encyclopedia of Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia (EHP), as they are amended from time to time, and that are prepared in accordance with these pharmacopoeias.
Two implications follow: 1) the same diagnosis (eg, headaches) in two patients may need to be treated with different homeopathic remedies because the totality of the symptoms differs for the patients, and 2) multiple diagnoses (headaches and an autoimmune disease) within the same patient may be treated with one remedy if a remedy can be found which matches the totality of the patient’s symptoms.
