A person struggling with his or her mental health may experience stress, depression , anxiety , relationship problems, grief , addiction , ADHD or learning disabilities , mood disorders , or other mental illnesses of varying degrees. Now, we are being told that mental illnesses are to blame for the tragedies in our world – that if we can test for, find and fix mental illness, keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, and give mental health exams to gun-owners, THEN we will be safe and all will be well.

Blaming anything other than the individual choices (e.g. the look of the gun because it had a handle on the front of it, or Saturday Morning Cartoon violence) for violent crime is never going to give us the results we want, or even address the real issue: that people make choices and do what they want to because they want to, even through the fog of mental illness.
